Artist profile
Long before I thought of myself as an artist, I was drawn to overlooked worlds- insects, fungi, succulents, and other unusual organisms. As a medical illustrator, I learned to observe anatomy, structure, and color with discipline, while discovering that close examination only deepens wonder and mystery. In my work, I transform botanical photographs through intensified hues, magnified detail, and delicate currents of color. Familiar plants seem to enter an imagined biosphere, recalling insects, deep-sea organisms, and life yet unnamed. This practice grows from a sense of continuity between plant and animal forms. My work challenges the idea of “still life.” Plants may move too slowly for us to witness their gestures, but their stillness is never passive. I bring their movement, vitality, and drama into view while preserving the solitude of lives that exist largely beyond our attention. Here, stillness is not an absence, but life moving at the edge of our perception.
