Karine Hochar

Artist profile

"Karine Hochar is a Beirut born sculptor, with Mexican and Lebanese roots. She grew up during the civil war, and this experience strongly shaped the way she sees the world. Her work comes from a dialogue between inner emotions and the instability of the outside world. Her sculptures have rough and textured surfaces, and the forms are solid and full. The figures often feel grounded, expressing a sense of presence and belonging. She uses colorful patinas to bring warmth, depth, and emotion to the bronze. Karine's sculptures have been shown internationally, including in Beirut, New York, Florence, Cairo, London, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. She has also exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français at the Grand Palais in Paris. In 2023, Karine received the “Special Commendation from the President” award at the Florence Biennale."
